Hostway publish FREE guide to Getting Your Business Online in association with the NFEA
LONDON - October 29, 2004 - Hostway, one of the UK's leading providers of web and managed hosting services, today announced that it has published a handbook giving small and medium-sized UK businesses the inside track on getting the most out of being online.
Entitled "Getting your Business Online," the guide will help smaller companies formulate and set up a basic online presence that incorporates a working website and other online marketing activities. The guide also provides more advanced advice to companies that already have a web presence on how to better use the Internet to meet their business goals. It covers a broad range of topics from how to use the internet to find new markets and become more competitive, to developing a complete e-commerce strategy.
The guide has been sponsored by the National Federation of Enterprise Agencies, a membership body for Local Enterprise Agencies in England. The NFEA traditionally target pre start-up, start-up and micro businesses in order to assist them in increasing their ability to survive, to sustain themselves and to grow. At a higher level, the NFEA also aims to influence Government, the EU and other key decision makers in the development of effective strategies which enable small businesses to prosper.
"As an organisation offering advice to small businesses, it's important to share information in a way that makes things simpler, not more complicated. This is particularly true for technical business issues, such as website marketing," said Alex Stewart-Jones, spokesperson for the NFEA. "We were pleased to work with Hostway on this because this is an increasingly important area for most small businesses, and Hostway have a strong track record in supplying straightforward hosting solutions and honest advice to the same people we deal with everyday."
The guide aims to answers the following questions for SMEs:
- Why should I get my business online?
- How can I get my business online?
- What are the basics that I need to know and do?
- How can I take my online business further?

Hostway Virtual Private Servers
LONDON - August 1, 2004 - Hostway UK, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Hostway Corporation, today announced the introduction of a brand new range of Linux Virtual Private Servers (VPSs). The company hopes the new line will further differentiate its highly customer-focused brand of business hosting services, and simultaneously address a growing demand for low-cost dedicated servers in the UK.
The current interest in Virtual Private Servers is largely down to the economies hosting providers can pass on to VPS clients, who essentially enjoy dedicated server like performance and autonomy, but at a fraction of the normal cost. VPS is based on the concept of 'mainframe' partitioning that allows dozens of partitions to run multiple applications on the same server, with a 100% guaranteed equal share of resources (i.e. Processor, Disk, RAM) for each client on the Server. Under Linux, this partitioning is controlled at Kernel level. Recent advances in the technology mean that, in terms of data security, performance, and the freedom to install whatever is needed, a Virtual Private Server can now function exactly like a stand-alone dedicated server.
"Our Linux VPS is a really exciting proposition" explains Hostway U.K. CEO Rob Lovell, "especially for hosting resellers, online application developers, and high traffic business sites because it delivers exactly what these users need - complete control over domain management, allied to Root access rights, in a completely secure environment. As the costs of hardware, network connectivity and systems maintenance are distributed, it represents an affordable choice, even for higher end shared hosting customers. What's more, it's backed up by a wide range of quality, open source software and tools that work really well together."
There is more good news for VPS customers. Unlike most shared hosting contracts out there today, Hostway's VPS products are covered by a Service Level Agreement that reimburses the client for outages over and above an agreed limit.
"Our VPS clients effectively have the best of everything: low-cost dedicated server performance, allied to easy domain administration, complete with SLA coverage. As members of Hostway, they can also be confident they are dealing with a truly customer-focused, forward thinking company, that will look after them through-out their growth life-cycle" summarises Mr Lovell.
Hostway's Linux VPS solutions start at £49.95 per month. Further information can be found at http://www.hostway.co.uk/virtual

Hostway CEO Lucas Roh Wins 20th Annual KPMG Illinois High Tech Award
CHICAGO, Nov. 24, 2003 - Lucas Roh, CEO of Web-hosting leader Hostway Corporation, is among seven executives from four companies to win the 20th annual Illinois High Tech Awards presented by audit, tax and advisory firm KPMG LLP. A ceremony tonight at Chicago's Ritz-Carlton Hotel will honor the winners.
"This is a tremendous honor for every one of our employees and recognition of their hard work and achievements of the past five years," said Roh, who founded Hostway in 1998 and has led the company to its current stature among the world's five largest Web-hosting companies. "It's gratifying to be included among this year's award winners as we mark a generation of progress in the Chicago technology community."
KPMG cited Roh and the other honorees for "contributing to innovations that have changed the way we live and work." Roh said the company will continue its strategy of global growth and diversification into complementary managed Internet services. He noted Hostway has at least doubled its revenues each year while recording a profit in every quarter of its history, achieving its financial success without any outside capital.
In addition to Hostway's Roh, the other Illinois High Tech Award winners are Judson Green, President and CEO of Navigation Technologies Corporation, Chicago; Henry Adams, CEO of Sportvision, Inc., Chicago; and the senior management team of TouchSensor Technologies, LLC, Wheaton, Ill., including Chief Technology Officer and Founder David W. Caldwell, President and COO Thomas M. Schreiber, Director of Operations Scott Roberts, and Director of Engineering Bahar N. Wadia.
"This year's winners and finalists have succeeded in continuing their development and commercialization of products that were not even imagined when we first launched these awards two decades ago," said Judy Freeman, partner in charge of KPMG's Information, Communications and Entertainment practice in Chicago. "They have combined strong management and a solid strategy with outstanding products or services that the judges believe have made significant technological advances."
KPMG's Illinois High Tech Awards remains the only program that exclusively recognizes and honors the achievements of the Illinois high-tech industry. The program was developed to celebrate the success of Illinois high-tech entrepreneurs who have overcome significant marketplace risks to successfully develop innovative products and generate new jobs in Illinois. Previous winners have led their fields in areas such as modem technology; Internet-browsers; Internet grocery shopping; online auctions, and much more.
