.Pro Products
Product Overview
Qualified professionals have the choice between 2 basic domain extensions -
i) Third Level Names (e.g. yourdomain.med.pro)
ii) Second Level Names (e.g. yourdomain.pro)
See below for restrictions and details.
In addition to these new extenstions .Pro is the first registry to bundle a digital certificate with every domain name, which will provide the ability to send encrypted and confidential email.
A range of what are called 'Defensive Registration Products' are also available. These may be of interest to people wishing to protect a trademark or service mark for example, or to avoid running the risk of losing their desired name in future.
Each registrant's identity and professional license information will be verified against relevant public and third-party databases prior to domain name activation.
Third Level Names
All licensed and credentialed professionals and professional entities who self-certify that they meet the eligibility requirements are able to register .Pro domains.
The profession-specific Third Level Names that registrants can secure are as follows:-
yourdomain.law.pro (for Lawyers and Solicitors)
yourdomain.med.pro (for Doctors or Physicians)
yourdomain.cpa.pro (for Accountants)
yourdomain.eng.pro (for Engineers)

Additionally, each domain is issued with a digital certificate and each registrant will have the choice of an SSL or email (s/MIME) certificate.
Second Level Names (resolving)
All licensed and credentialed professionals and professional entities who self-certify that they meet the eligibility requirements are able to register .Pro domains.
Second Level Names end exclusively in .pro and as such are a tier higher than Third Level Names.
They are referred to as 'resolving' because they resolve on dns to a website independent of the existing Third Level domain.
Each resolving second-level name is issued with a digital certificate and each registrant will have the choice of an SSL or email (s/MIME) certificate.
Second Level Names (redirecting)
After qualifying and purchasing for one Third Level domain, registrants may request their desired redirecting Second Level name.
As the title indicates, this can only 'redirect' to an existing Third Level name.
If registrants wish to own a Second Level domain that resolves to a separate website, they must already own at least 2 Third Level names in different professional categories (as per 'Second Level Names resolving' above).
Each redirecting Second Level name is issued with an email (s/MIME) digital certificate.
.Pro Defensive Registration Products
'Defensive' .Pro registrations will be of interest to people/organisations who -br />
a) would like to protect a trademark or service mark that was issued before September 30, 2003
b) would like to use a .Pro domain at a future date but do not want to run the risk of losing their desired name
c) are waiting for the availability of .Pro domains in their country or jurisdiction and want to investigate the four available defensive registration products.
Defensive Registrations have:
A four-year registration term
Do not resolve on the DNS
Block out all matching domain names
With a Defensive Registration, registrants can reserve and block a name now, and by providing professional eligibility information at the time of registration can easily convert a Defensive Registration to a live domain name at a future date.
