Brands must work hard to protect their ecommerce solutions from piracy and counterfeiting, it has been suggested.
According to Charlie Abrahams, vice president of EMEA territories at enterprise brand protection firm MarkMonitor, the best way to do this is to harass the websites behind it.
He suggested that this is a difficult task because of the fact that there are so many websites counterfeiting and pirating, with new ones popping up ever days.
However, Mr Abrahams said that if brand owners do not take up the fight, now one else will do it for them.
"The ISPs have abuse teams that are there to remove this stuff but they won't police it - you have to go tell them," he said. "They're pretty responsible actually in most cases that we meet."
He was speaking after a report by MarkMonitor indicated that suspected sports apparel counterfeiters are attracting at least 56 million annual visits to their bogus ecommerce sites every year.
