New domain names 'can boost online identity'
Purchasing a new generic top-level domain name could help businesses to boost their online presence, according to TalkTalk.
The internet service provider's communications director Mark Schmid said the cost of these new domain suffixes means they are out of the reach of the average internet user.
"It could be good for companies that want to establish their identity online and the high price is obviously designed to put off cybersquatters," he wrote on the official TalkTalk blog.
Mr Schmid went on to claim branding companies will no longer have to worry about starting with a catchy domain name when they are creating a new product or businesses, as they will be able to register whatever address they want.
However, he questioned whether or not the cost of the addresses will put them out of the reach of many small businesses.
Applications for the new domain names will run from January 12th to April 12th 2012.
