Social media can be used to improve the effectiveness of many retailers' ecommerce approaches, it has been suggested.
According to Verdict, too many companies in the retail sector are failing to turn to social media to shape brand identity.
A report by the company suggested that simple steps such a embedding YouTube videos of catwalk shows and interviews with designers could emphasise the brand of a clothes retailer, as well as boosting customer engagement.
Charlotte Woods, analyst at Verdict, said: "Most retailers have recognised the value of social media, but very few have realised its potential to benefit online stores.
"Retailers have the ability to attract increased levels of traffic to their online stores by using social media to create entertainment destinations which consumers can get excited about."
The report suggested that retailers across all sectors can benefit from creating online retail channels that encourage entertainment among their target demographic.
Earlier this week, Verdict's Matt Piner suggested that ecommerce can provide a "more level playing field" for retailers than bricks and mortar stores.
