Tablets 'are next big trend in ecommerce'
Retailers have been urged to prepare for the next big trend in ecommerce as shopping on tablet PCs such as the Apple iPad becomes increasingly popular.
According to Shopzilla, which manages a portfolio of online shopping brands in the US and Europe, six per cent of consumers own a tablet and a fifth are thinking about buying one in the next 12 months.
Nearly two-thirds of current owners believe it is just as easy to carry out ecommerce transactions via one of the devices as it is on a personal computer, while seven in ten have already made a purchase using the gadget or would consider doing so.
Rachel Smith, business services senior director at Shopzilla, said: "With the explosion of the tablet market we are seeing a seismic change and the opportunity will be for the retailers who are first to get it right."
Earlier this month, Econsultancy predicted the ecommerce technology sector will be worth £690 million by the end of the year.
