On the go individuals who use mobile internet to keep track of their emails and work documents could be interested in the latest quarterly results.
According to global operations firm ABI Research, Samsung could be set to becoming the most popular provider of smartphones after successful year-on-year results.
The company, which enjoyed a 500 per cent growth in the past 12 months, came second only to Apple in the newly released sales statistics.
Also featured in the report, researchers discovered that the 103 million shipments of the gadgets in 2011 represent an overall year-on-year growth of 62 per cent.
Michael Morgan, senior analyst for ABI Research, said: "Although Apple's 142 per cent growth placed it as number one this quarter, Samsung's 500 per cent growth shows that going forward, the top smartphone [orginal equipment manufacturer] position is Samsung's to lose."
In other mobile internet news, Google Android-based smartphones in China and Latin America have experienced strong sales in the past year, which has helped Motorola Mobility achieve 40 per cent growth in the second quarter.
