Mobile internet news: Smartphones 'responsible for O2 growth in Ireland'
Individuals using mobile internet to keep in touch with their friends from remote locations could be interested in an announcement about smartphones.
According to a recent report, the increasingly popular device has been the driving force behind a successful year for Irish O2 provider Telefonica Ireland.
Results revealed that the number of people using the gadgets increased by 40 per cent in the first half of 2011 alone, with this figure expected to increase in the future.
In addition, sales of smartphones have resulted in the company's mobile broadband customer base reaching 165,000 users, with a rise of 20,000.
"We are extremely pleased with the uptake in data, which continues to be a key growth driver, now accounting for 40 per cent of our mobile service revenues," remarked chief financial officer of Telefonica Ireland Paul Whelan.
This news comes after market research provider comScore revealed that 13.5 million users across European markets used the technology to visit ecommerce websites.
