WorldDesk and Dropbox introduce cloud collaboration

WorldDesk and Dropbox introduce cloud collaboration

A collaboration between two technology heavyweights is set to change the way consumers think about network storage.

WorldDesk, a leading provider of desktop virtualisation software, is collaborating with cloud storage company Dropbox to launch a beta cloud-based desktop delivery platform.

As a result, users will not only be able to access their files using any machine with internet access (through Dropbox), they will also be able to use their entire personalised desktop, including settings and applications.

WorldDesk chief executive Rao Cherukuri described the collaboration as "truly revolutionary".

"WorldDesk separates a user's applications and personalised desktop from their physical machine. This technology, combined with Dropbox, allows users to store their desktop in the cloud, allowing for access from any machine," he said.

The solution will therefore allow users to have a fully personalised desktop experience via their Dropbox folder.

Currently, the service is not highly available as it can only be accessed through 32-bit Windows 7 machines, but there are plans to expand it across other operating systems and cloud storage platforms.
