Application Restrictions Under Root
What Applications can I run on my Root VPS?
In the vast majority of cases, VPS users will be able to run exactly the same applications and software they would on a standard Linux Server with Root access. There are however certain restrictions in terms of the types of applications that you can run on the Hostway VPS Root architecture. These include but are not limited to the following:-
1. Applications that require the loading of a kernel module.
2. Applications that require a specific kernel module, or module version, that is not included in the existing distribution.
3. Applications that require direct access to block or character devices.
4. Applications that require NPTL.

What should I not run on my Root VPS?
Whilst our VPS machines are robust, because of the nature of virtualisation, VPS are not suitable for certain types of activity. You may for example find your VPS will not function sufficiently under the following circumstances:-
